NYS New Hire and Rehire Reporting Requirements

Overview of Law
New York requires that employers provide the following information to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance:
- The employee’s full name
- The employee’s home address
- The employee’s social security number
- The employee’s hire date
- The employer’s name and address
- The employer’s employment identification number (EIN)
- Whether dependent health insurance benefits are available to the employee and, if so, the date the employee qualifies for the benefits
The information must be provided within 20 days of the employee’s hire date. If the employer reports it electronically, they can send reports twice a month, with each batch 12 to 16 days apart. Employers can file electronically through the New York New Hire website, here.
